For her Fairgrounds St. Pete installation L O L, Tess used phonetic charts to create forms made inside of the mouth while pronouncing the letters “L” and “O”. This is an expansion of a formal vocabulary that she is currently working with in her practice. Comprised of over 200 ceramics, L O L is playful and humorous in personifying text often used in pop and tech culture. Arduino code is used to create rhythmic laughing patterns to evoke a high-spirited atmosphere and allude to laughter in the air.

For Fairgrounds St. Pete Chris has created a multi-sensory installation of contemporary Strawberry Room is an immersive, mixed media installation that celebrates one of Florida’s sweetest crops, strawberries, and pays homage to the culture that surrounds strawberry production in the greater Tampa Bay region. Located in the Mermaid Star Motel, it presents a celestial theory for the origins of the beloved fruit, while acknowledging how the berries are grown and harvested today, and showcasing the folksy decadence that defines strawberry culture and cuisine.

For Fairgrounds St. Pete Chris has created a multi-sensory installation of contemporary and sacred art, offering a glimpse into the infinite consciousness and energy hidden within us all. Representations of the God Shiva and Goddess Shakti permeate the room in forms of illuminated stained glass, altars, infinity mirrors, light projections, paintings, healing sounds and wall murals. The combination of these ancient, esoteric symbols illustrates the cosmic balance between the dual forces that are eternally powering our dynamic universe. Designed as sacred space, this installation provides an oasis for the mind and encourages sensitive guests to experience moments of peace and calmness that transcend the busy world of language and thoughts.

Dialogical Analogs in Chlorine is by artist Matthew Campbell.

Curious about Matthew Campbell and his art practice?

Influenced by the natural world, engineering, and architecture, Matthew works in a variety of materials using traditional and digital fabrication methods. He holds a BFA in Photography from Rochester Institute of Technology, a Masters of Architecture from Morgan State University, and an MFA in Sculpture from the University of South Florida. Originally from West Virginia, Campbell now resides with his wife, daughter and son in central Florida.
