FLORIDARAMA
FLORIDARAMA:
Tiny Worlds, a Universe of Possibilities
FLORIDARAMA is Fairgrounds St. Pete’s signature installation featuring artist commissioned custom dioramas immersing guests in tiny worlds that offer a universe of possibilities.
FLORIDARAMA is the heart and soul of Fairgrounds St. Pete; it’s the space where our spirit and aesthetic come to life!
What is a Diorama?
A model that depicts a scene in a contained space. In the Fairgrounds St. Pete world, a diorama is an artist created environment housed in a special laser cut box.
Why Dioramas?
Dioramas provide opportunities to transport viewers to other worlds that tell stories. On a macro level, engaging storytelling is Fairgrounds St. Pete’s key goal and why FLORIDARAMA is a critical feature in our overall exhibition.
What is the FLORIDARAMA Experience?
When guests enter FLORIDARAMA, a universe unlike any other unfolds before them and immerses them completely into a vibrant, playful, engaging and dynamic cosmos.
Each diorama is unique on its own and when featured together as a group, treats guests to a feast of visual and experiential opportunities.

WHAT ARTISTS SAY ABOUT FLORIDARAMA DIORAMAS
“I love immersive installations and I am very fond of miniatures,
so the medium of a diorama sparked a lot of creativity for me.”
-Amanda L.
“It was totally in my wheelhouse as I like creating in miniature, I almost always start with a story in my mind when creating art, and I love a good challenge! Also I always relished this kind of assignment, from elementary school and beyond. The one thing I almost always got “A’s” in!”
-Eileen G.
“It was my first time working in a box. It wasn’t challenging, it was a fun process! I love the idea of bringing “out of the box” thoughts into a box. It’s an interesting process and it inspires me to create more dioramas in the near future.”
-Adela S.
“This is the first time I have created a diorama and it has been an interesting process. It has inspired an idea for a new large-scale installation. In some ways, it is a maquette. I would love to see this on a large scale! And I had to adopt some new methods and materials.”
-Babs R.
“I primarily work in pen and ink and like to work small, so it was an exciting challenge to scale up my work and present it in a three-dimensional realm while maintaining the integrity of my style. Additionally, I’ve never utilized laser cutting in my art before, so the process of creating this diorama has presented a wonderful opportunity to add a new skill to my repertoire.”
-Chad J.
“The constraints of the box inspired me to tell a visual story and depict a scene, as if looking through a camera lens.”
-Judy V.
“It made me direct my focus on material and methods that I have never used to create such as laser cutting. I enjoyed the challenge of learning something new.”
-TJ E.
“It inspired me to work in more of a 3D realm, something I’ve done in the past but this will be a little different based on the complexity of the design..”
-Jabari R.
