Have you seen the glowing light pipes installed throughout our immersive experience? At Fairgrounds St. Pete we designed and built a variety of illuminating light pipes which highlight the magical element of restorative water throughout the Mermaid Star Motel.

Shane Carey’s Coastal House series provides a surreal portrayal of what the internal structure of a Royal Palm would look like if the organic exterior was removed and a 2D paradox remains from its original form.

Tech Tuesday at Fairgrounds St. Pete – Pepe’s Plight

Did you know that Fairgrounds St. Pete actively blends art and technology to create a more immersive experience? Tech Tuesday is a day to showcase the new and innovative technology concepts utilized at Fairgrounds St. Pete.

Josh Campbell designed Pepe’s Plight to accurately reflect the motion of the ocean. Each wave was laser cut from wood and then hand painted. He constructed multiple moving elements and 3D printed every gear. The entire diorama is powered by a single motor, and the addition of LED lighting and creative coding achieved a stormy forecast. ⛵⛈️

For their Fairgrounds St. Pete artwork Flora-Da-Scope Alex, Aleisha, and George created the coolest Kaleidoscope you’ve ever seen! Using movement, LEDs and acrylic, Flora-Da-Scope transports viewers to a psychedelic and fantastical world, leaving them speechless. Flora-Da-Scope is a gateway to a universe that you need to experience first-hand to completely understand.

For her Fairgrounds St. Pete installation L O L, Tess used phonetic charts to create forms made inside of the mouth while pronouncing the letters “L” and “O”. This is an expansion of a formal vocabulary that she is currently working with in her practice. Comprised of over 200 ceramics, L O L is playful and humorous in personifying text often used in pop and tech culture. Arduino code is used to create rhythmic laughing patterns to evoke a high-spirited atmosphere and allude to laughter in the air.
